Responsibilities
- Develop, review and enhance policies and regulatory frameworks to ensure environmentally sound management of chemicals and hazardous/toxic industrial wastes that are controlled under Acts and Regulations
- Monitor latest developments of various Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) that local is a Party to, and ensure local compliance with the obligations under the MEAs
- Participate in relevant regional meetings, workshops and bilateral for a of key environmental interests to local and network with overseas environmental authorities (e.g. on overseas policies and regulations on chemicals and hazardous waste/toxic industrial waste management and environmental pollution control)
- Engage and consult relevant stakeholders (e.g. chemical companies, toxic industrial waste collectors, industry associations, government agencies, members of the public) in the development and review of environmental policies and regulations, and working in collaboration with the relevant departments, divisions and the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment (MSE)
- Assess licence/permit applications and carry out site inspections on facilities handling hazardous substances and hazardous/toxic industrial waste
- Represent inter-agency and cross-departmental technical committees and working groups to provide relevant technical inputs on chemical and environmental pollution control
- Work with various teams to develop a statement of work.
- Any other ad-hoc duties assigned
Requirements
- Degree in Chemical Engineering or Environmental Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
- Experience in chemical manufacturing operations, pollution control or environmental management is a plus.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
